Theory courses: SSI certifications from home
Not everyone is lucky enough to live right by the water – sometimes our surface intervals are much longer than we’d like. But during that time, you can still do something diving-related: just do a bit of further training.
Some of the SSI courses are pure theory courses. That works whenever the diving itself doesn’t actually change. That’s why the Nitrox course, while one of the most important ones out there, doesn’t need any practical sessions – underwater, nothing is different than diving with air. This course, which honestly everyone needs sooner or later, can be completed comfortably from home, so you can enjoy the longer bottom times on your next trip.
Science of Diving doesn’t need water either. We especially love teaching this course, and besides the material here on the page, we’ve got several webinars you can watch either live or as a video. The course is a bit more extensive – after all, it’s a requirement for becoming a dive professional, and by then your dive theory really should be solid. The SSI material itself is fairly manageable though, so it’s up to you how much of our extra content you want to dive into.
Altitude Diving, Equipment Techniques, and then all the Ecology Specialties – there’s a whole lot you can get into when diving just isn’t an option right now.

More than the standard program
Besides the SSI courses, where we always like to offer a bit more than the minimum, we have a few favorite topics of our own. Many of them appear repeatedly in our webinars, which you can attend for free at any time; others will gradually be added here.
Our central theme for several years has been Deco theory. Countless webinars on all details, several complete series – this has grown into a complete course, and now also into a book.
But we are also on the road, physically and online. In our webinars, we explain some aspects of Deco theory, as well as ecology, diving practice, and general diving theory. And on the Punkfish safaris with the Omneia Spirit, we combine Deco theory with real decompression in the Red Sea.
But there’s more: In the “Deep Narcosis Project”, we collect experience reports on how it feels when you don’t function as well as usual at depth, and when that becomes alarming. And, of course, we explain what deep narcosis means and what is known about it.
And then, a few years ago, there was this volcano on our small island, and of course, we couldn’t help but turn it into a “Diving with Volcanoes” – Specialty.
