If you’re thinking about learning to dive, the question often arises: Do you want to take a dive course on vacation, or would you prefer to do it beforehand at home and just go diving on vacation?

What’s best for you? That depends….

On vacation you are usually relaxed, right by the sea and can really enjoy your first dives. For many, this is an argument for doing the course on vacation. But if diving is to become a hobby that you can also practice in your region, then you may also want to learn to dive there.

Whatever you decide: You can complete the theory independently. You book the SSI material for the course with us, and then decide where you want to complete the practical training.

Prepare for your Next Diving Experience Online

The OWD is not enough. You have your first diving certification, but you know there’s still much to discover underwater – then you’ve come to the right place.
Not only for getting started in diving, but every dive course also includes some theory. You can do them whenever you want, online. Of course, you always have a contact person: If you have any questions, just get in touch with us. You will get an answer to all your questions, and for some topics, we have additional material that we can provide you with.

Your Individual Diving Experience: Specialties

Every diver is different – and that’s why there are many different ways to gain new experiences underwater that match your exact interests. SSI offers a truly wide array of Specialties from which you can choose what you enjoy most.
Are you looking for depth and love challenges? Deep, Decompression Diving, Scooter, Night could be your courses. Is safety particularly important to you? Navigation, Stress&Rescue, and perhaps perfecting your buoyancy again could help you progress. If you are interested in dive theory and the many Ecology courses, you will find a wide range of options on the page with the theory specialties.

Extended Range: Theory for Technical Diving

Have you already gained some experience and know that you would like to undertake more challenging dives? Are you drawn to wrecks, caves, and depth? Then training in technical diving is a good step for you.
Naturally, more theory is required for more complex dives. The more challenging the goal, the better prepared you should be in theory and practice. So that you don’t have a mountain of learning material during a demanding Extended Range course, you can prepare yourself calmly beforehand.

FAQs – What else You might Want to Know

How can I do an SSI Specialty here?

Very simple: You book the course or write us first. Then you get access to the SSI Online Course and extra material from us. You will work through this and can ask us anything you are unclear about in an online meeting, by email or via messenger. Then you take your exam online.
To complete the course, you must then complete a practical part. You simply book this at a diving school of your choice.
If you complete the practice at Punkfish Diving La Palma, you will receive 50% off the price of this course during your training.

How does it work if I have to do dives for my course?

You need a diving center where you can complete your practical training. If you can’t just come to us in La Palma, we’ll be happy to help you find it.

Will it be more expensive if I don’t book everything at the same SSI Center?

That depends. All centers calculate their course prices according to the amount of training and the cost of the kit they pay to SSI. Part of the course is diving theory. Some centers offer classroom instruction in a classroom, some incorporate some theory into the practical sessions, some rely entirely on self-study – and a few, like us, also offer webinars and a personal contact person in addition to the SSI kit.
If the center where you want to complete the practice has a fixed course price included with the kit, you will get no or only a small discount there if you have purchased your kit in advance. Your course will be more expensive overall – but you will have the material beforehand and can still prepare in the best possible way.
If the center of your choice charges the training and the materials separately anyway, you only pay for the training there.
And if you come to us in La Palma, we will even deduct 50% of the price you paid here for the digital kit from the price of the practice. Because the cost of online preparation for our guests is of course included.
