DECOMPRESSION THEORY
Decompression Theory
IANTD Decompression Specialist
The topic that always concerns us the most is the deco theory: how to show up in such a way that the risk of DCS is as small as possible? In this course, we will provide a solid introduction to the various aspects of deco theory in a total of six parts. Starting in September, Tuesdays, every two weeks – the dates for this next life-webinar series:
1: Saturation and desaturation – 12.9.2023
2: All about gradients – 9/26/2023
3: Bubble models – 10.10.2023
4: Individual approaches – 24.10.2023
5: And finally, what provoces DCS? – 7.11.2023
6: Deep stops and other discussions -21.11.2023
Here we explain what is known about decompression and what choices can be made to keep the risk of DCS within a range that is acceptable to oneself.
The course can lead to two recognitions: A Punkfish Decompression Theory Diploma (not officially recognized anywhere) or the IANTD Decompression Specialist (alwayshn a serious venerable association). And if you do a Tek course with us or go on safari, you simply get our course for free.
We, the Punkfishes Dominik Elsässer and Veronika Sievers, wish you lots of fun reading and diving!

0: Why decompression theory?
Why are we actually interested in this topic? What is the risk of DCS during normal dives?
1: Saturation and desaturation
How does the body saturate and desaturate? What are the physical laws behind these processes? How do you model limits for diving from this? What are M values?
2: Gradient factors
How to modify saturation models?
What limits describe our risk when diving? How can we personalize them?
3: Bubbles and bubble models
Now what was that about bubbles and microbubbles and bubbles and stuff? What do bubble models do differently? Up to what point does this make sense?
4: Individual risks
People are different. That some get more blisters than others, or respond differently, could have medical reasons.
5: And finally, what provoces DCS?
Were you traveling within the no-decompression limits, and still it got you? Did you not drink enough, or too much? Do you have a PFO like others in the group?
6: The Deep Stop and other discussions
Who means what when they say deepstop? What makes sense, what doesn’t? And what needs more research done?
